Duties Involved in:


¬ Fire & Safety Officer

o Inspection and training of Crew
o Safety Meetings, Weekly/Monthly Safety reports.
o Train and guide crew to ensure safe operations and minimize LTI, near misses and accidents.
o Planning and carrying out Fire and Safety drills as per requirements and regulations. Keeps records of safety drill activities and exercises and maintains records deck logbook

o Incharge for maintenance of fire and safety appliances onboard and in conjunction with shore servicing authorities.
o Coordinates and organizes all aspects in the management of an emergency situation

o Coordinates all passenger and crew safety drills and along with other appointed deck officers performs safety instructions to crew and staff members from all shipboard departments
o Trains lifeboat, life raft, emergency evacuation and Fire-fighting parties and operating crew

o Preparation of the muster lists for all departments and hands them to the department heads for internal distribution

o Oversees the maintenance and inspects all supply sources - accumulators, batteries and uninterrupted power supply of all emergency equipment as well as the emergency generator and lights

o Responsible in conjunction with the Chief Engineer for all the fire-fighting and lifesaving equipment aboard the ship - Lifeboats, life rafts and launching devices, life jackets, life rings, fire alarms and detection systems,fixed CO2 systems, EEBD, sprinkler system, fire extinguishers, watertight and fire doors, fire and bilge pumps etc

o Advises any defects or malfunctions of safety related equipment

o Ensure proper use of PPE at all times

o Makes sure that the public address system is in proper working order and is well heard in all passenger and crew cabins
o Prepares weekly/monthly/quarterly reports and carry out safety meetings

o Responsible for budget and cost containment through the proper use, handling and maintenance of supplies and equipment



¬ Port | Cargo Operations

o Liaising with Port authorities, Immigration/Customs, agents
o Ensure Safe Operations as per cargo plan
o Ensure smooth and safe operation of ships equipment during port/cargo operations
o Ensure proper operation by Stevedore/shore gangs in conjunction with stevedore supervisor
o Planning & Loading / Discharging Containers and products like Naphthalene, Methanol, Cement, barite etc (Including Dangerous/ Explosive cargoes)
o Preparing of cargo manifests.
o Avoid unusual delays for arrival / departure of ship due to cargo delays or other reasons.
o Ensure proper segregation, especially dangerous cargo.
o Ensure crew keeps proper fire /cargo watch/ cargo stowage at all times.
