After completion of my HSC and SSC form St. Joseph’s College, Nainital, one of the recognized schools in India and with commerce as my subject, I realised that an insight into the law field would give me an edge into the competitive world today. Having come from a law background, I took admission in one of the premier law institutes of India, Indian Law Society’s Law College, Pune. The learning experience in this premier institution with internship exposures has not only raised my knowledge manifold but has also boosted my acumen and the confidence level.
After completion of the course in May 2009 and enrolling myself as an Advocate with Bar Council of Delhi, I worked as Law Associate with Delhi based Law Firms. Area of practice was predominantly on Civil Laws. Job role as Law Associate was to:
Regularly assist in drafting various civil Writ petition, Special Leave Petitions, Miscellaneous Applications, Cross-Objections etc.
Appear and argue matters before various Judicial as well as Quasi Judicial Authorities and Debt Recovery Tribunal & Consumer Forums.
Attend and assist in various Arbitration and Mediation Proceedings.
Draft legal notices, replies to show cause notices and interim applications.
Assist in various client meetings, briefing advocates on record and senior advocates.
Draft of complaints, issuing of legal notices and replies to legal notices under section 138 (Dishonour of Cheque) of Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881.
Draft of Legal Opinion under Contract Act, 1872, Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act 2002, Recovery of Debts Due to Banks and Financial Institutions Act 1993 and various provisions of Family Laws.
Extensive Research Activities on Manupatra and Supreme Court Cases.
My experience of working in the field of law has developed my understanding and insight to deal with law related issues. During my work exposure I learnt about random aspects of law and also assisted in drafting civil suits, writs, special leave petitions, interim applications and also briefing Counsels.
Currently I am working as Manager (Law) with The Nainital Bank Limited, a subsidiary of Bank of Baroda an international premier Bank. My reporting is to Vice President (Law & Human Resource Management). I look after the legal affairs of the Bank by:
- Assisting in framing opinion on vital legal issues.
- Follow up of pending cases by and against the Bank and maintain the records of the proceedings of the same.
- Render legal assistance to all Branches/ Offices of the Bank.
- Ensure that Bank’s Administrative Decisions are upheld before the Court of Law.
- Vetting and preparation of loan documents of One Crore and above.
- Ensure strict compliance of guidelines/ directions of Reserve Bank of India and Bank of Baroda.
- Ensure implementation of follow up measures for speedy recovery in NPA Accounts.
- Assisting Branches in working under Securitization and Restructure of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002.
