My Matching Experience: For 21 years I Worked As Bridge Inspector, My Responsibilities were to:
Inspect railroad bridges, trestles, culverts, and waterways to detect damage or wear to make sure structures conform to safety regulations, building codes, and railroad engineering specifications
Inspect waterways to define need for cleaning, straightening, or enlargement
Inspect masonry in tunnels, culverts and waterways to detect cracks in concrete or signs of settlement
Verify alignment of bridge with road track, using levels similar gauging instruments
Observe installation of guardrails on bridges to make sure construction according to specifications
Inspect fire protection equipment, like fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and water barrels, on bridges in tunnels
Determine need for repainting structures to prevent rust or excessive weathering
Measure clearance between bridges and roads to make sure sufficient clearance for passage of vehicles, in accordance with local building codes specifications
Inspect piles, posts, and timbers to define if decayed, split, or crooked
Strike wooden supports with hammer listens for sounds indicating decay
Inspect bolts rivets at joints of floor beams, stringers, and panel points to make sure they are securely fastened
Inspect steel girders to detect buckling
Inspect drainage systems to detect obstructions
Inspect inside of tunnels to detect excessive vegetation growth
Prepare reports of findings, noting location type of structure, defect, and extent of damage.
