Until early February 2015, I was the Sales Director for CETCO Energy Services in the Far East, a US based Oilfield Services company, specialising in niche produced water treatment, solids removal and capital equipment engineering design & sales. My territorial responsibility included Asia Pacific, India and the Middle East. The position was made redundant due to cost cutting activities by the CETCO parent company (MTI).
Prior to assuming the Sales Director role, I was the CETCO Asia Pacific General Manager for two years, with a total head count of approximately 120 in three countries (Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia), and a P&L in excess of $25MM pa.
My responsibilities over the past 3 years include:-
• Providing internal and external Leadership for CETCO in Asia Pacific, reporting to Vice President, Asia Pacific
• Accountable for services and Engineered equipment sales in the allocated territories
• P&L accountability to EBIT level
• Development and maintenance of financial targets and business objectives
• Plan and implement region and country specific business growth strategies
• Development and managing sales representatives (agents)
• Ensuring region adherence to corporate legal and ethical requirements
• Talent identification and development
• Ensuring region adherence to corporate legal and ethical requirements, including FCPA
• Driving the corporate HSE policies and objectives
As an Oilfield Production Chemist by training, I have diversified over the years to encompass numerous technologies into my portfolio, such as speciality/niche chemicals, corrosion and erosion monitoring technologies, fluid separation technologies (sand and oil/water separation), and can strategically integrate multiple technologies to enhance the product offering to our clients - in effect adding value to differentiate my company from competition.
I pride myself as being a people person, and view myself as a ‘Leader’ rather than a ‘Manager’, and maintain that this is my biggest strength. I have always believed in the benefits of empowerment of staff to achieve success in business, and have been fortunate to have been able to recruit talented staff in various disciplines over the years, which has allowed me to ‘Lead’ by focusing on developing them to be the best they can be, rather than be ‘Managed’ by me micro-managing the group on a day to day basis. (I accepted a long time ago that I could not be all things to all men, and a talented, empowered and motivated team could achieve greatness.) It is by possessing this mentoring skill that I have the inner confidence to lead a team in ANY market or product portfolio....my philosophy is that it isn’t necessarily what I do myself, but rather what I motivate others to do which achieves success.
