Operation Manager.
Almost all businesses require one or more executives to promote an organization's values and goals to employees. Operations executives formulate operational strategies and objectives to ensure the organization meets its goals and operates successfully. These professionals support other top executives, as well as the owner or organization's board of directors, and may be responsible for the entire operations of a small business.
Education
These professionals often obtain a bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the organization and a master's degree in business administration. Most obtain their master's degrees during their careers. These credentials provide a solid foundation for operations management.
Experience
Most operations executives have gained experience throughout their careers, and in most cases, were progressively promoted into higher-level positions. These professionals often have at least 15 to 20 years of experience, with at least half in managerial positions overseeing staff and budgets.
Types
Large organizations often have several operations executives to oversee and direct a portion of the business. In most cases, larger corporations have a chief executive officer (CEO) or president, and a chief financial officer (CFO). Some include a chief information officer (CIO) who oversees technology. In smaller organizations, the CEO or president may embody many of these titles, and staff members assist with day-to-day responsibilities.
Responsibilities
For most small businesses, operations executives oversee and direct financial budgets, personnel and operations. They ensure operations function to promote growth and meet financial objectives. This includes short- and long-term planning and assessing of the budget to ensure annual profit goals are met. Operations executives also plan for growth in different areas. Unlike larger organizations, they often have a direct role in sales, marketing and customer service to ensure growth.
Salary
Salary can range extensively for these types of occupations. In most cases, small businesses looking to expand will offer operations executives a bonus or profit sharing plan based on annual revenue and the organization's overall performance. In May 2008, the Bureau of Labor Statistics listed a national median salary of RS 7.5 LAKH per year for general and operations managers.
