The Head of Content - Pharma Solutions is responsible for leading and managing the team of Content Strategists who are responsible for the development, management and execution of a customer-focused content publishing strategy for the pharma business, in line with Elsevier India’s strategy to become a full service health information provider for pharmaceutical industry. Senior content strategist should train and the develop the team in order to be able to accept and execute the challenging solutions requirments of the business.
The role is accountable for defining the content development plan including text and multimedia components, acquiring and managing products; negotiating with authors and other parties; directing product development; scheduling; adhering to product and departmental budgets.
The Head of Content - Pharma Solutions operates as an individual contributor and team leader within the diverse, exciting and diligent Pharma Publishing team, working in close partnership with academics and key stakeholders at various pharma companies as well as internal colleagues including Publishers, Project Managers and Project Coordinators from the Editorial and Publishing Operations team, Sales and Marketing teams as well as production teams in Gurgaon/ Chennai.
Content Strategy :
- Develop education solutions and programs including print, electronic and multimedia products that are aligned with overall Elsevier India strategy and serves the unmet needs of market.
- Develop local, reusable and exportable content that is an integral part of our end-users work and study lives.
- Provide updates to content strategy as required.
Project Management:
- Develop new project ideas and revision cycles for existing projects, under the guidance of the Director of Pharma Business.
- Undertake market research to ascertain market acceptability of projects prior to preparation and presentation of a publishing proposal.
- Ensure all proposal criteria are addressed.
- Ensure project viability through appropriate research and preparation.
- Present new proposals to all stakeholders for necessary discussion and approval.
- Undertake contractual negotiations with author prospects and issue final contracts after appropriate approvals from senior management.
- Liaise with Content Strategists in other Elsevier offices regarding adaptations to ensure open channels of communication are maintained.
- Ensure that the terms of adaptation agreements are fulfilled.
Customer and Market Knowledge:
- Build a high level of market knowledge.
- Develop strong product knowledge including that of competitors.
- Continually monitor market and competitor trends and activities.
- Establish a network of contacts, identify potential authors from current and emerging opinion leaders, educators and clinicians.
Financial Responsibility:
- Manage the yearly business targets and ensure these areas are aligned with the growth plans for the Organization
-Work closely with the other Content Strategists where applicable to ensure team targets are addressed
Internal teamwork and collaboration :
- Present new product information at sales conferences.
- Develop sales information or NPGs as required.
- Contribute to formation of marketing plans.
- Work closely with sales colleagues to train the sales colleagues on selling propositions of upcoming titles and the proposed solutions.
- Coaching and mentoring the team of Content Strategists.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experiences (and any other requirements)
- Post graduate degree in Medical Discipline discipline/ MBBS, preferably with an MBA
- Demonstrated understanding of the tertiary educational marketplace in Health Sciences (essential)
- Understanding of the publishing process (essential)
- Experience in commissioning new titles and managing new editions (preferred)
- Understanding of sales and marketing function in relation to promotion of pharma resources (essential)
- Good standard of general education & English
- 7 to 8 years of experience in medical content writing preferably in pharma companies, any publishing house or any medical communication organization.
- 4 to 5 years of experience in a people management role.
