Hair transplant repair using bodygraft

The new technique of FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) allows for much more possibilities and flexibilities in hair transplant procedures. It is much more efficient than the traditional FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant) technique, and allows procedures which were not possible under FUT.

Repairing previous transplants

Regardless of the technique used for hair transplant, the success rate, that is the number of hair follicles that survive, depends on a number of factors, ranging from the patient’s unique physiology, the precision of the surgeon to the quality of post-surgical care. Hence, if the results of a hair transplant surgery conducted earlier are not as expected, it is quite common for patients to seek a transplant repair surgery. Hair transplant by using FUE technique makes repairing previous unsatisfactory hair transplants quite viable. Also,

if the previous transplant was via FUE, it makes repairing it further easier. If the initial transplant was conducted by FUT technique, then a strip of skin along with the hair follicles will already be removed from the donor area, severely limiting its usability for taking more grafts. But if the initial transplant was from FUE, and if the donor area still has dense hair, then more hair can easily be taken from the same area. This option is not available if the entire strip o
f hair was initially removed.

Bodygraft option for hair transplant repair

If the reparation surgery is conducted by using FUE technique, then the option of bodygraft is also available. This option is not feasible with FUT technique, since it leaves a very prominent and visible scar on the body. The scar made by FUT technique can be hidden when it is in the scalp, but it is harder to hide when it is in other parts of the body where the density of hair is much lower. However, FUE technique leaves no such scar. Hence, if the density of hair on the scalp is not sufficient, there is also the option to take hair follicles from other parts such as chest, armpits, arms, legs or beard.

These hairs follicles do not give the same results as those taken from the head scalp itself, but still, they are effective in dealing with baldness. When transplanted, the hair grows to the length of other hairs on the head. Hence, this technique is quite useful for correcting previous unsatisfactory transplants for those who do not have dense hair at traditional donor areas such as back and sides of the scalp.

Other advantages

Besides allowing more flexibility for hair transplantation, FUE technique also has several other benefits. Since the follicles are extracted by small puncture needles instead of removing a long strip of tissue, the scars left are very small and do not require any stitches. Also, they heal quite quicker than traditional long scars associated with FUT technique. The small scars made by FUE technique heal by a week in most cases, and hence pose alower risk of infection. Hence, FUE is an ideal hair transplant technique for first hair transplant as well as correction of a previous transplant.
