Brass Elbow And Its Types - Features, Advantages & Applications

Brass Elbows are fittings which aid an angular arrangement or connection of 2 pipes. An elbow is an angular connector for 2 pipes, Elbow angles can be 45 degree ,90 degree which is used to direct the flow of Fluids.

The Some Of the Various Types of ‘Elbows’ depending on its bending angle are:

(i.)90-degree Elbow.

(iii.)22.5-degree Elbow.

The ‘90 degree Elbow’ with its internal threads can be easily fixed with steel, Plastic, Copper pipes, and it can also be attached to rubber pipes with steel clamp fixtures. And the 45-degree is generally used in agricultural fields, solar-energy piping system, and air-conditioning water supply.

The Elbows are generally categorized by its length, such as the radius of curvature of a long-radius (L-R) Elbow is 1.5 times more the pipe diameter, whereas the short-radius (S-R) Elbow has a radius almost equal to the pipe diameter.

The Features of the Brass Elbows:

1. Rust proof.

2. No material leakage.

3. Reusable.

4. Easy to fix and dismantle.

5. Can withstand higher pressures and temperatures.

The Advantages Of Brass Elbow:

1. Brass Elbows are capable of transmitting hot water or steam or gas as it doesn’t deform from its shape.

2. The elbow carrying steam doesn’t rust it, unlike cast iron.

3. No possibility of leaking, unlike iron elbow after long time.

4. The Brass covered with PVC gives an extra safeguard.

The Applications of Brass Elbow:

1. Portable for drinking water, it is lead-free.

2. In Industrial plumbing, as heat exchangers.

3. Used in sub-marine piping systems.

4. In Petrochemical refinery plants.
